ThermiRase

For the longest time, Botox has been the go-to cosmetic procedure for dealing with frown lines in the forehead and between the eyebrows. Typically called crow’s feet or smile lines, wrinkles between the eyebrows and around the eyes have always been problematic for patients. That’s why they turn to Botox in order to smooth their skin and reduce wrinkles.

These days, however, an alternative to Botox has proven to be more effective and longer-lasting when treating wrinkles in the face and forehead. Known as ThermiRase, this exciting new procedure is now offered by Los Angeles cosmetic surgeon Dr. Carlo Honrado!

What is ThermiRase?

ThermiRase is the newest FDA-approved treatment for wrinkles and frown lines in the facial area. As people age, skin loses elasticity, resulting in skin that is loose and saggy. ThermiRase uses radio-frequency nerve ablation to stimulate the nerves beneath the skin. The overall goal of ThermiRase is to relax the muscles that cause wrinkles in the face, resulting in smoother and younger looking skin.

How Does ThermiRase Work?

ThermiRase uses radio-frequency to ablate nerves. Though a relatively new practice in the world of cosmetic dermatology, radio-frequency has been effectively used for years in the fields of cardiology, dermatology, and pain management.

This procedure allows Dr. Honrado to isolate the nerve which makes vertical lines between the brows and it is targeted with heat so that it doesn’t continue to contract those muscles.

During a minimally invasive ThermiRase procedure, the heat generated by radio-frequency targets specific tissues in the underlying skin, ablating the motor nerve which causes facial wrinkles. This process involves the use of a small probe that generates radio-frequency heat. After mapping out the target muscle and nerves, Dr. Honrado will gently insert the radio-frequency probe beneath the skin and use low level energy impulses to purposefully disrupt the wrinkle-causing muscles.

Like Botox, ThermiRase prevents facial muscles from full function, but patients can expect results as astounding as they are beautiful.

ThermiRase FAQs

Who is a candidate? How do I know if I’m a candidate?

Almost anyone.

What can I expect during the procedure? How many treatments will I need?

Some discomfort. Typically only one treatment is needed.

What needs to be done to prepare/is any preparation needed?

None.

How much discomfort will I experience during and after? Will Dr. Honrado or his still give me any type of anesthetic?

An anesthetic is injected below the surface of the skin.

How quick is the recovery time? How much downtime is needed after?

About 1 week for full recovery. Downtime will depend on the amount of swelling and this varies person to person.

How soon will I be able to return to work? Will I need to go directly home afterwards to recover? Will people be able to see/tell I had something done?

Depends on severity of swelling.

What are the post procedure instructions?

None

How long is the ThermiRase procedure?

Generally, a ThermiRase procedure takes about 30 minutes to perform. During this time, patients will be given anesthesia to help them remain calm and comfortable. Once the procedure is over, patients are free to enjoy their new beautiful, smooth skin!

How long do the results last?

ThermiRase results last much longer than Botox, with some patients reporting results for up to two years. In most cases, patients can expect results that last between a year and a year and a half, much longer than Botox, which lasts between two to four months! As a cost-effective and long-lasting cosmetic procedure, nothing comes close to the effectiveness of ThermiRase.

What other benefits does ThermiRase have over Botox?

In addition to lasting longer than Botox, ThermiRase is notable for being completely non-toxic.
