Tips for Choosing the Best Facelift Surgeon

May 15, 2014 By Carlo Honrado

Choosing the best plastic surgeon for your facelift may be one of the most important decisions you can make.  When choosing a plastic surgeon for any procedure, there are basic questions to answer before so much as your first consultation.

Board Certification

Please read below from the website of The American Board of Plastic Surgery:

How does a doctor become Board Certified?
By choosing a plastic surgeon who is certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery, Inc., you can be assured that the doctor has graduated from an accredited medical school and has completed at least five years of additional training as a resident surgeon in a program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Medical Education or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. This includes a minimum of five years of residency training in all areas of surgery, including at least two years devoted entirely to plastic surgery. Certification is a voluntary process a surgeon seeks after this training. To become certified, the doctor then must pass comprehensive written and oral exams. We suggest you visit the link on our home page to American Board of Medical Specialties website (www.abms.org) and click on “Is Your Doctor Board Certified” to check whether a doctor is board certified by any of the 24 ABMS Boards.– From the American Board of Plastic Surgery

You should also check that the surgeon is part of the American Academy Of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.  Click on this link here to learn more and to see if they are a member of  the Academy.  http://www.abfprs.org

Surgeon’s Records

You can research the history of potential surgeons on the Health Grade website.

To find out if you are good candidate for a facelift and if the surgeon is right for you, make sure to come to your consultation prepared with as many questions as possible.  The surgeon’s before and after photos can be a great departure point for questions you may not have though of.  Have the doctor explain what was done and why and if any of what you are seeing pertains to you.   Also find out how many of the exact procedure recommended for you, they have performed.

What other patient’s and doctor’s are saying

The forums on Real Self can give insight into what other patient’s are going through and how doctor’s respond to some very basic questions.  While most of the answers here are more informative rather than medically comprehensive, it can be another starting point into understanding more about facelift surgery before your first consultation.

Most importantly, you need to feel comfortable with your surgeon.

Set up and appointment with Dr. Honrado to see if he is the right facial plastic surgeon for you. 310.286.0043.
