Introduction to Revision Rhinoplasty in Beverly Hills

November 25, 2013 By Carlo Honrado

Because cosmetic surgery procedures are on the rise, there are many individuals who believe that all doctors can do the job right on the first try. However, very often, without experience or with complications, a surgery, such as a rhinoplasty, may have to be undergone a second time to make corrections. This is called a revision rhinoplasty and they are completed frequently in Beverly Hills.

A rhinoplasty is a nose job. This is where a patient is given a local or general anesthetic to correct the shape or function of the nose. This may because the patient thinks their nose does not fit their face or perhaps they have a breathing problem.

Generally revision rhinoplastys in Beverly Hills is performed on individuals who have had too much tissue removed or had residual excess tissue still there, even after a first surgery. The first of these procedures is more difficult to perform. In those cases, tissue may be taken from the ear, rib or other part of the body and then placed to reform the nose. Because this corrective surgery is complicated, patients need to be sure to pick a skilled and experienced surgeon for their revision rhinoplasty. When the individual has an excess tissue option, the surgery is very similar to the first surgery.

The length of the procedure will vary based on the complexity of the case as will the technique based on what corrections need to be made. The doctor will then place splints and nasal supports in as well as bandage the nose. Cold compresses help relieve the swelling and most of the time, an over the counter painkiller will alleviate any discomfort. Generally, stitches and splints will be removed within a week. Most bruising and swelling will disappear within the first two weeks. On average, it will take about six months to see the full results.
